Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from the KonMari Method®?
The KonMari Method® isn’t about getting rid of things — it’s about discovering what truly brings you joy and creating a home that supports how you want to live. Together, we’ll focus on what you love and want to keep, rather than what you’re letting go of.
Some items bring joy through their usefulness — a coffee mug, a broom, or a kitchen tool may not make your heart sing, but they serve an important role in daily life. The goal is a balanced, intentional home where every item has meaning or purpose.
Why should I work with a KonMari® Consultant?
Reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is inspiring, but applying the KonMari Method® on your own can feel overwhelming. Working with a trained consultant provides structure, accountability, and gentle guidance through what can be an emotional and transformative process.
As a Trainee in the KonMari Method®, Laurel helps you make confident decisions, teaches you lasting organizing techniques, and shows you how to create natural flow and calm throughout your home.
How do I begin my KonMari® journey?
Your journey starts with a complimentary 30-minute consultation via phone or video. During this conversation, we’ll discuss your goals, your current challenges, and what you’d like your ideal home and lifestyle to look like.
You’ll have a chance to ask questions and learn whether this approach feels right for you. If you decide to move forward, you can book your first Tidying Session.
How many sessions will I need?
Each project is unique. During your consultation, we’ll estimate how many sessions may be required, though this can change depending on your home, pace, and goals.
The number of sessions depends on:
The size of your home and the amount of belongings to organize
The number of categories you want to complete
Your pace in deciding what sparks joy
Your preparation before each session
Whether you continue tidying independently between sessions
Most sessions last three to five hours — long enough to see meaningful progress in one category without feeling rushed.
Why are sessions up to five hours long?
Three to five hours allows enough time to dive into a category and make real progress without fatigue setting in. Few comprehensive organizing projects can be completed in less than three hours.
If you wish to continue beyond five hours, additional time can be arranged for an hourly rate.
Do I have to be present during a session?
Yes. Only you can decide what sparks joy — this is your personal journey. Tidying works best one-on-one, so we recommend that family members, roommates, children, and pets are not present during the session. This allows you to focus fully and make confident decisions.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
No preparation is required, but if you’d like to maximize our time, you’ll receive optional pre-session guidance by email. For example, if we’re starting with clothing, gathering all your garments into one place ahead of time can help us begin right away.
Will I be asked to throw things away?
Never. Every decision is yours. Living Edit’s role is to guide, not to judge. You decide what to keep, what to donate, and what to let go of.
What if my partner isn’t on board?
That’s perfectly normal. Begin with your own belongings — once your partner sees the change in your space and energy, they often become inspired to join in. The KonMari Method® has a gentle ripple effect that naturally encourages others.
Do I need to buy storage solutions before we start?
No. The KonMari philosophy emphasizes using what you already have. We’ll find creative ways to maximize your existing storage and make your home feel organized and harmonious without unnecessary purchases.
Do you offer cleaning services?
No. Living Edit provides tidying, organizing, and styling — not cleaning. We focus on creating beautiful, functional spaces that are easy to maintain, and we can recommend trusted cleaning professionals if needed.
Which areas does Living Edit service?
Living Edit serves clients on the Kona side of the Big Island, Hawaii and offers virtual sessions worldwide. Sessions outside these areas are available by arrangement and may include pre-agreed travel fees.
